Growing Home provides transitional employment and training to Chicagoans who have multiple barriers to employment, such as, having been previously homeless or incarcerated.
Through a social enterprise business based on organic agriculture, the Growing Home job training program assists individuals in securing permanent and unsubsidized employment.
The program provides experiential learning opportunities and employment in a local economy, as well as, a unique job readiness curriculum that helps reintroduce participants back into the workforce.
-Growing Home develops innovative urban and other agricultural initiatives with economic development potential. In 2010, Growing Home’s Wood Street Urban Farm grew and sold over 11,000 pounds of local, USDA Certified Organic produce, with over $45,000 in earned income.

Jean, I think it could work anywhere. the produce just may vary according to climate. Thank you for sharing and I hope your week is lovely
layanglicana 10:53 am on July 11, 2012 Permalink |
Absolutely agree with Jean – if they can do it in Chicago, surely they can do it in any Western city (eg London!)
Gaye Crispin 1:33 pm on July 11, 2012 Permalink |
Laura,
I think it could work anywhere, just that the produce would vary. What a great community allotment that could make in high homeless areas. Thank you for sharing Laura and I hope your week is great
